USDA Hardiness Zones: Best grown as a cool-season annual in zones 4–9. Tolerates light frost, making it ideal for spring and fall gardens.

Perennial Potential: Lettuce is an annual and will not return year after year. However, if allowed to bolt and self-seed, it may naturalize in your garden and return on its own the following season.

Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade. In warmer climates, afternoon shade is recommended to extend the harvest window and prevent premature bolting.

Soil Requirements: Prefers loose, well-draining, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0. Amend with compost for best results. Does not tolerate heavy, compacted soil.

Temperature Sensitivity: Thrives between 45–75°F. Bolts quickly in temperatures above 80°F. Light frost is tolerated, but hard freezes below 28°F may damage or kill plants.

Harvesting: Begin harvesting outer leaves as soon as they reach 3–4 inches in length for a cut-and-come-again approach, or harvest the full head at maturity, typically 50–60 days from transplant.
